Soon she’ll discover the shocking, fantastical truth about Ryland and Mallory, and about an age-old debt they expect Phoebe to pay. Will she be strong enough to resist? Will she be special enough to save herself?

My Review:
Well…this book was a downer [frustrated sigh] totally going against what I hoped for, and that was the expectations of it being good. It is after all written by a “NY Times Bestselling” author. The plot sounded interesting but not enough for me to keep turning the pages any further. What ruined it? The damn dialogue that’s what! It was unbearable and hard for me to visualize teenagers who didn’t talk or think their age. Pff, and don’t give me that “maybe they’re mature” act because that wasn’t the case, so please spare me the bull sh*t. There was also too much internalized thinking in the narration that made the story drag…Plus, the conversation Mallory and Ryland had with the queen ruined any chance of surprises, so unfortunately this book didn't cut it. Hell, I didn't even bother finishing it.

  1. This one was hard for me to finish too. I definitely agree that it has an almost fake air about it. I definitely enjoyed her other, Impossible, much more.

    1. When I read books likes these, I know the publishing industry isn't exclusive anymore. You had to be really good, and not publish any bull crap. Then again, most critically acclaimed NY Times Bestsellers turn out to be a flop, for me anyways. All you need is an interesting summary and pretty cover [laughs]. However, I still would like to read Werlin's "Rule of Survival." Hope it's good.
